D4c Emergency Response
The ongoing war in Lebanon has displaced millions, with children, women, and the elderly being the most vulnerable. They urgently need shelter, medical care, and food. Overwhelmed authorities cannot manage the crisis alone, so it is up to the Lebanese people and their allies to step in and provide support.
The displaced have lost their homes, belongings, and sense of security, making safe and dignified shelters a crucial first step toward stability. Design for Communities (D4C) spearheads various projects to address this urgent need.

Course
Build Your Idea With D4C
The Community Centered Design (CCD) Course equips participants with the skills and mindset to design with communities, not just for them. Over the course of two months and 12 interactive workshops, participants learn to apply participatory, heritage conscious, and sustainable design methods that address real needs and create lasting impact.
Led by Design for Communities (D4C) experts and guest professionals, the course blends theory with practice through real world case studies, collaborative exercises, and community engagement techniques. Upon completion, participants receive a Community Centered Design Certificate and gain access to further opportunities, including the CCD Program and internships to create together impactful projects on the ground.
By fostering inclusive and culturally rooted solutions, the CCD Course contributes to building resilient, equitable, and sustainable communities across Lebanon and beyond.

Methodology Section
A participatory, action oriented process.
At D4C, projects emerge from a participatory, action oriented design process that engages the local community.
Working in collaboration with partners such as Di Lab at AUB and other educational institutions, D4C fosters multidisciplinary collaboration that bridges research design and practice.
Despite constraints like limited time, budget, and material availability, the design process encourages innovation and experimentation. D4C identifies needs, secures funding, and assembles teams of architects, engineers, and social scientists to develop sustainable design solutions that respond to the community needs.
